Testing & Updating Continues…

I’m continuing to make changes to revamp this old design based on the Vistered Little theme. I will continue to make updates, and I still need to rearrange the sidebar, and get my Aside posts back to being asides again. I’m either going to use a sidebar asides plugin, like MiniPosts, or I’m gong to use another plugin for inline asides. I also just upgraded WP from version 2.9 to 2.9.2, so I will have to make sure everything still works fine. I should be done these updates soon. Right now I’m using my websites mainly to test out new ideas, designs and scripts, but I should be back to regular posting soon.

Rearranging Again

I’m once again modifying and rearranging this site. I had the old theme up there for too long, so I’m revamping an old theme I had on here over a year ago. I should be able to keep the site online while these relatively minor changes are made. I also want to get back to frequent posting. I should be done this project within a day or so.

Bypassing Download Limit on Rapidshare

In my last post I mentioned that I was using Rapidshare to download some files. As a free user I noticed that there were not only waiting times but there were also periods of times where I had reached the download limit for free users. The best way to get around this was to get a new IP address. Rapidshare traces the users IP Address to limit each user to a certain amount of downloading per day. To get around this, you need to show the rapidshare server a different IP address.

I have only tried this on a windows machine, but here is how I requested a new IP address:

1. Click Start
2. Click run
3. In the run box type cmd.exe and click OK
4. When the command prompt opens type the following. ENTER after each new line.
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
exit

this is the best way I have found to get around download limits. There are some other ways that can be found on AskStudent, but I was not successful with any other way except this one.

Mac Software: Stuffit Expander

A few days ago I downloaded some .rar files for the first time since switching to mac. On windows the program winRAR is used to extract .rar files, but it will not work on a mac. I have tried a few programs which work well, but I have found the Stuffit Expander to be my favorite. It opens both .rar files and .oo0 files quickly and easily without any hassle.

To use the Stuffit Expander, you place all of the .rar files into it’s own folder and open the first .rar file or the .000 file (.000 or .001) and it extracts and joins all the files. I mainly use this when downloading movies or large files.

Some other similar applications are:

UnRarX (Probably the most popular for mac users)

The freezing cold weather is here now and there is a lot of snow on the ground. It looks like we will be getting more around Christmas too, which is nice. School is done and the Holidays are here now. I’m looking forward to Christmas as always.
